Bio: Caroline was the daughter of Frank and Mary Jacob, and the sister of Catherine, Mary, John, and Joseph. Her family was in Louisville in time for the 1860 federal census, which shows her then working as a seamstress.
She married fellow immigrant John Hoffmann at Louisville on November 20, 1866 and they made their home in that city.
She had nine children: Mary (Anthony Schmitz), Frank J. (Mary Hettel), Catherine (Herman Alfers), Elizabeth (Henry Greenwald), Amelia, Teresa (Christian Gentner), John Michael, Joseph J. (Catherine Schnell), and Emma (John Strubel).
Caroline had been a widow for over a decade at the time of her death, first appearing listed as such in the 1895 Louisville city directory.
The Jefferson County mortuary record shows she died of nephritis at her home, 1120 Logan Street where she was living with her children Amelia, John, Emma, Mary and her husband, Anthony Schmitz.
