He was a sales analyst at Toledo Scale for 26 years and lived in Toledo for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband of Irma Rose for 45 years. She preceded him in death in 1996. His love, laughter and sense of humor will be sadly missed. For the past 3-1/2 years, he was an active resident of the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. Some of his favorite activities at OVH included playing pinochle, summer picnics and especially the Bicycle Club that traveled throughout Ohio. He was a WWII Veteran and a Technical Sergeant in the 80th Division of the Army that served in Europe. On March 28, he enjoyed a trip to Washington, DC, to visit the WWII Memorial. He was born in Hancock County, Ohio, to Clem and Grace Helfer on August 14 1924. He is also preceded in death by an infant son; his parents and sisters, Louise Copley, Jean Baughman, and Marian Hellriegel. He is survived by his son, James of Thornville, Ohio and daughter, Jane (fianc?, Robert Tucker and his children, Erin Edwards, Weston and Aarik). Jane and Jim wish to thank their family and friends for their love and support as well as the pastoral staff of Olivet Lutheran Church and the staffs of Holly Glen Nursing Home and Toledo Hospital for their care. Our special thanks go to Dr. Monica Young and the staff at Hospice for their extraordinary compassion. Visitation is scheduled for 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Ansberg West Funeral Home, 3000 West Sylvania Ave., where services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Interment Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. It is requested that tributes be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
