Bio: Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield, IL 1924-1928; St. Philip Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO 1928- . Both of these congregations were all African-American.
He served as the president of the General Conference of Mission Workers and Mission Congregations of the Synodical Conference of North America 1930-1946.
He founded the St. Louis Society for Better Race Relations in 1938.
Missionary-at-large for the LCMS's Northern Illinois District in Chicago, IL 1947.
Helped to organize and found the Lutheran Human Relations Association of America, Valparaiso, IN 1953, becoming its executive secretary in 1954 and director of research in 1964.
Part-time teacher at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN 1954.
Editor of "The Vangard", the publication of LHRAA.
Author of "My Neighbor of Another Color", 1941; "A Bibliography on Race Relations for Pastors and Laymen", 1958; "Fire from the Throne", 1968; "Race Against Time", 1972.
