Bio: Survivor of the sinking of the (Heavy Cruiser) USS Indianapolis (CA-35) by a Japanese submarine on 7/30/1945 at 15 minutes past midnight in the Philippine Sea; he was 1 of 317 who were rescued 5 days after the sinking but 880 lost their lives with 300 of them going down inside the ship and the others died due to water conditions, starvation, shark attacks or other causes. The Navy command did not even know the ship was sunk until 3½ days after the sinking.Paul's WWII experiences (along with others) are detailed in the 2002 book "U.S.S. Indianapolis Survivors".Update: On 8/19/2017, 1½ years after Paul's death, the wreckage was finally found 18,000' (3,000 Fathoms/60 football fields) down on the sea floor.As of 7/2017, there were 20 survivors still living.
