- Wanner, Marcus (Mark)
Mark Wanner, beloved husband of Shirley Wanner of Calgary and loving father to Susan Woolgar of Red Deer, AB passed away peacefully, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, January 3, 2008, surrounded by his love ones.
Mark was born on a farm near Torquay, SK and moved to Estevan, SK as a young boy where he completed his primary education and met the love of his life Shirley. Shortly after marrying in 1954 Mark and Shirley moved to Saskatoon, SK where their daughter Susan was born in 1955. Calgary beckoned the young family and soon became home. Mark enjoyed a long career (thirty-three years) with Mobil Canada in the Drafting and Land Departments before taking early retirement in 1985. He was also blessed with long term friendships with many of his colleagues that have lasted to the present day. Mark had a life-long love of fishing ? particularly trolling where he spent hours and hours on the waters of Mahood Lake in central BC. He was at his happiest ?at the lake?, resulting in many wonderful family memories related to the time spent ?roughing it? at the family cabin. Mark was a craftsman in every sense of the word and able to fix most things. He also enjoyed and was very good at playing cards. Poker with his buddies and Bridge with Shirley and their close friends in the later years brought him much satisfaction. With the birth of his grandchildren, Erik and Shannon Woolgar, Mark took on the role of grandfather with great enthusiasm. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he played an important role in their formative years. He was blessed with many remarkable friendships which reflect the impact he made on peoples lives. He will be sadly missed by many.
