John Fyock Birth: 23 Aug 1772 Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA Death: 13 Dec 1852 (aged 80) Burial: Unknown Memorial #: 128332370 Bio: John was the oldest son of Jacob, born in what is now Franklin County, Pennsylvania. When John Fyock was a young man he became the first settler to clear land in the part of Somerset County that was to be Paint Township. The 1795 tax list of Bedford County, Brothersvalley Township, shows John Fyog - "single freeman", John appears on the 1800 US. census in Somerset County, Pennsylvania with one male (26-46 ) one female (under 10), one female (16-26). John is listed on the Somerset County tax rolls (1808-1813) in Conemaugh Township, and (1814-1827) in Shade Township. John Fyock's family has left some mysteries. We have found two daughters with the name Elizabeth, the first born July 1800 and a second born 10 July 1811. In the will of Charles Hoch he named both Elizabeths to receive money from his estate, the second Elizabeth is listed as the illegitimate daughter of John. We have found two sons of John Fyock named Jacob; the first, born 5 Nov. 1809 and lived in Cambria County. The second, born 24 Mar 1824 and living in Franklin County. We find in the obituary for Peter Fyock, son of John Fyock, that Peter was the brother of Jacob Fyock of Quincy, Franklin County. John was a farmer and lived most of his adult life in Somerset County.
