OSCAR W. STOEBENER
Oscar W. Stoebener, 90, Baldwin City, died Friday, Sept. 21, 200, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, north of Worden.
Burial will follow services at St. John's Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.

Funeral services for Oscar W. Stoebener, 90, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John?s United Church of Christ north of Worden. Burial will be at St. John?s Cemetery.Mr. Stoebener died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Dec. 5, 1916, in rural Baldwin City, the son of John and Sophie Haas Stoebener. He attended Central Grade School north of Worden.Mr. Stoebener served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a private first class assigned to the Second Battalion, 19th Regiment of the 24th Division. He was stationed in Hawaii, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged May 17, 1945.He worked on the family farm and later for a crew harvesting beets in Colorado. He also helped build Highway 56. He worked as a carpenter for the Kansas University maintenance department for 23 years and retired in 1982.He was a member and Sunday school teacher and held many offices at St. John?s United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans in Lawrence and American Legion in Topeka. He enjoyed cutting firewood and tending his yard and garden.He married Pearl Rose Brohammer on July 31, 1949, at the Evangelical and Reformed Church. She died Feb. 16, 1999.Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Rose Johnson and husband Harold and Paula Kathleen Bowlin and husband Lyle, all of Baldwin City; a sister, Norma Schwarz, Baldwin City; three grandchildren, Tamara, Melissa and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Silas.Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Arnold, Walter and twin Otto; and a sister, Pauline Johanning. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City. The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City 66006.
