Bio: Herman Thaut, 83, passed away peacefully on Aug. 9, 2014. Herman was born on July 9, 1931, in Shepherd to Adam and Anna (Krug) Thaut. He was raised on the family farm with eight siblings in Shepherd, where he attended all 12 years of school. He then custom farmed in the area until he purchased his own farm northeast of Shepherd. Cora Lee came into his life in 1964 and they together continued to farm. Here is where they raised cattle and many crops, including barley for Coors. Later they moved to Billings where they spent their final years. Herman enjoyed playing and spending time with his grandchildren. When he was able to get away from the farm, Herman enjoyed attending the Lions Club events, kicking back and having a beer, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. Herman is survived by his daughter, Kim (Larry) Coomber and loving stepchildren, Ray (Donna) Kuntz, Karen Kuntz, Jeanette (Dave) Steiner and Steve (Kathy) Kuntz. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Jonathan, Alecia, Adam, Mike, Chris, Cory, Shannon, Mark, Mandy, Eli, Tanner, Chelsie and their spouses and children. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Cora Lee, and step-daughter, Patty and her spouse, Paul Bonser. Herman will be greatly missed by his close companion and furry friend Blue. He will also be missed by friends and family, including Lori Ruttenbur. We will always love you. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shepherd Interment will follow at the Shepherd Cemetery.
