BURG, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Burg, 75, of Elm Street, passed away suddenly on Saturday, (October 3, 2009). Born in Torrington, July 4, 1934, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth (Tut-tle) Burg. At the time of her death, she had been employed by Stop & Shop Supermarkets in Winsted for the past five years. Previously, she had been an Administrative Assistant, in the Housing Dept. with the State of CT, retiring after 13 years of service. She was a graduate of The Gilbert School, class of 1952 and Green Mt. College in Vermont. Betsy was a member of the Phoebe Humphrey Chapter DAR in Canton, and the Collinsville Congregational Church. She loved her cats, the beach, anything that had to do with the water and collecting sand dollars. Having come from a very musical background, her mother and uncle had gone to the Ju-liard School of Music, she sang with the Sweet Adelines in Torrington, the Mt. Laurel Chapter in Hartford and was one of the founders of the Farmington Valley Chapter in Simsbury. She had also taught her children to sing and harmonize, a talent they still enjoy today. Betsy was also very active in the Canton Benefit Productions for many years. Her survivors include her five children, Sue Harmon Mimnaugh and her husband John of New Hartford, Donna Harmon of North Granby, Gordon Harmon and Sarah Strecker and her husband David all of Canton, and Bruce Harmon of Winsted; a brother, John W. Burg, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL; a sister, Barbara King of North Hampton, MA; three grandsons, Daniel Leary, John Mimnaugh III and Bryan Strecker; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at the Church of Christ, 800 Main Street, Winsted on Saturday, October 10, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Douglas Aldrich officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice or Sweet Adelines International. There are no calling hours.
