Frederick “Fred” J. Kress age 71, of Caldwell, Oh passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH. He was born in Miltonsburg, OH on December 28, 1942 a son of Martha Burkhart Kress of Woodsfield, OH and the late George Kress.
Fred was a former coal miner and a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church in Fulda, where he was a member of the Ushers Club. He proudly served his country joining the US Army and serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 221 in Caldwell, Belle Valley American Legion Post #641 and a member of the V.F.W. Post #4721 in Caldwell.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Butch Griffin.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife Genevieve Crum Kress, whom he married on December 30, 2006; 1 son Joe (Connie) Kress of Jerusalem, OH; 2 step-daughters Rita (Eric) Innocenti of Wadsworth, OH and Linda (Brent) Greathouse of New Philadelphia; 1 step-son Brian (Kassandra) Shafer of Sarahsville, OH; 3 sisters Evelyn Griffin of Alliance, Helen (Jerry) Dillon of Canton, Chris (Joe) Hoff of Woodsfield; 5 brothers Bob (Darlene) Kress of Burns Harbor IN, Clem (Sharon) Kress of Lewisville, Bill (Lori) Kress of Canton, Ralph (Lucia) Kress and George Kress all of Bakersfield, CA; 1 grandson Hayden Kress; 3 step-grandchildren Taylor and Alex Innocenti, Brice Greathouse and a step-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received Wednesday March 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, with a Vigil Service at 4:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday March 13, 2014 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda, with Rev. Father Wayne Morris serving as Celebrant. Military Services will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Cremation will be observed and Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.
