Loving father of Diane Mestier of Glenview, IL, Judy (Gregg) Gibson of San Anselmo, CA, Susan (Fritz) Brauner of Woodside, CA, and Dorothy "Gigi" (Mark) Short of Fox Point. Proud grandfather of Katie and Joe Gibson and David, Michael and Meredith Short. Preceded in death by his sisters Lucie Sleckman, Gloria Laidlaw and Yvonne Mestier. Brother-in-law of John (Susan) Dickens and William (Jackie) Dickens. Further survived by other relatives and many wonderful friends. Joe was born and raised in Barbados. He was a 1943 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and an honorary member of Sigma Xi. During WWII, he served in the U.S. 8th Army in the South Pacific and the occupation of Japan. Joe was a longtime employee of Allis Chalmers and an avid tennis player and golfer. He will be deeply missed by his family and all whose lives he touched. Joe's family would like to extend a very heart-felt thank you to Debbie Smith for her loyal and dedicated care of Joe. They are also grateful to the warm and devoted staff at The Highlands at Newcastle Place. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 26, 4:00 PM, at Christ Episcopal Church, 5655 N. Lake Drive, Whitefish Bay. The family will greet friends at a reception following the service. Interment at Forest Home Cemetery will be private for the family.
