Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. The Rev. Theodora K. Hall officiating. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton.Velma Leona Disque was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Webster, Iowa, the daughter of Robert, Sr. and Effie (Hoffmann) Moore. She was baptized and confirmed in 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1932. Velma was united in marriage to August Disque on Oct. 20, 1934, in Wanda. The couple lived most of their lives in Sleepy Eye, where Velma worked as a cook at the City Cafe for over 25 years. Known as 'Granny' to all, she was well known for her chocolate chip cookies. Velma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, search words, and reading poetry, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by children Richard and wife Phylis Disque of Forest City, IA, Marj Balfany of Lamberton, Eugene and wife Jeanette Disque of Phoenix, AZ, Janice and husband Alfred Schmitz of Sleepy Eye, Carol and husband Jim Heinrich of Medford, and Jenny and husband Bruce Johnson of Waseca; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters- Myrtle (John) Kruse of New Ulm, and Ruby (Glenn) McCoy of Vesta; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband August; daughter Violet; son Roger; grandson James Dietz; brothers- Victor and wives Lorna and Sylvia, and Robert, Jr. and wife Laura; sister Aletha and husband Agner Winseth; and son-in-law Neal Balfany.
