- [S927] Obituary.
MARY BETH CERNOIA (nee Santelle) ?MB?, the ever sweet, darling wife, and forever best friend of Mark Nello Cernoia; and the devoted, loving mother of their daughter, Julia Marie Cernoia, went home to Jesus on June 27, 2018, after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer. She was faithful throughout and is now joyful in her closeness to God. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Santelle, and mother Jeanne Santelle (nee Scheetz) and father-in-law Nello. She is also survived by her aunt Darlyn Hooker, as well as her deeply devoted siblings: Dan (Lori), Dean, Karen Moser (Martin), Rick (Kara), David (Tiffany) and Barbie Martin (Greg); and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be dearly missed by her family, as well as the Cernoia Family: Rose, Arthur (Toni), Nello (Karen) and extended family. Mary Beth was the eldest daughter of hardworking, loving parents, and was raised in a close family in North Canton, Ohio. Her parents instilled a deep love for family ties, and she had many memories of joyful events and celebrations, as well as simple day to day moments. She was a 4th of July baby. Mary Beth spent a lifetime of gathering friends to her. Early in college a classmate nicknamed her ?the MB Element? on the Periodic Table. She possessed a generous, kind, loving and non-judgmental nature that served to strengthen her ties to all she befriended. She will be dearly missed. At an early age, Mary Beth decided on a career of counselor/ therapist and pursued an academic course towards that end. She was always an Honor Student, and achieved a Master of Social Work Degree at Case Western Reserve Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences (1980), after her undergraduate degree at Akron University (1976). She began her career in child welfare, but quickly gravitated to her ambition to help others in counseling at Catholic Social Services and then Family and Personal Counseling Services wherein she thrived and helped others since 1992. She was a Licensed Independent Social Worker; a member of the National Association of Social Work, the Academy of Certified Social Workers, possessed a certificate of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and delivered all her services with compassionate, dignified care. Mary Beth had many interests, and a precious one was her participation in the St. Columbkille Contemporary Choir. Her association with this group and all the activities, events, and friendships marked a life-long dream. MB always filled her plate without regard to time or barriers. She lived her life in the moment and her example is a blessing to us all. Contributions may be made to the St. Columbkille Music Ministry or the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Columbkille Church, 6740 Broadview Rd., Parma, Monday July 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
