Fred Stutzenberger, Sr., Potato Farmer, Dies Fred J. Stutzenberger, Sr., potato farmer, civic leader, and former banker, died at 11:05 a.m. yesterday at Kentucky Baptist Hospital. Stutzenberger, 66, became ill at his Springdale home about 3 hours earlier, suffering a hemorrhage of an artery near the heart, A leader for years in a campaign to get more people to eat Kentucky potatoes, he had grown as many as 70 acres of potatoes a year on his farm on Brownsboro Road at Spring-dale. Among his titles was one bestowed in 1957 Orchard Grass King at the Crestwood Orchard Grass Festival where his seed was adjudged best. Reduced Acreage In recent years he reduced his potato acreage to about 20. In 1953 he was quoted as saying, "People are eating less potatoes than they used to, because of diet propaganda. Potatoes actually aren't as fattening as other high-protein foods." He was president of the Worthington Potato Growers Association. Stutzenberger served on a four-man agricultural committee that worked for election of Republican candidates last year. He was a past director of the old St. Matthews Bank St Trust Company, and a director and past president of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. For 24 years he was a director of Ormsby Village. Funeral To Be Friday He was a member of the Jefferson County Sportsman's Club, was Jefferson County representative for the Kentucky Seed Improvement Association, a member of Southern States Farm Co-operative, F. J. STUTZENBERGER, SR. From an old photograph an elder in Springdale Presbyterian Church, and a World War I Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Wiemann; a son, Fred J. Stutzenberger, Jr., and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Kramer and Mrs. Annie Hahn. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road, where the body will be after 3 p.m. today. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Heart Fund.
