Obituary for Mr. Raymond William Brilz Sr.
Raymond William Brilz, Sr. of Rock Hall, MD, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. He was 85.
Born on July 13, 1931in New Salem, North Dakota, he was the son of the late Anton and Bertha Swartz Brilz. He began his career service with the United States Army in May of 1956. While serving at the Nike Hercules Unit in Tolchester, he met Rebecca Hepbron and was married in 1959. Mr. Brilz served two tours in Germany, twice in Michigan, two tours in Vietnam (66 and 69). He also served Stateside at Fort Knox, KY, Ft. McClellan, AL, and Fort Hood, TX, where he retired after 22 years of military service.
He moved to Kent County, Maryland, where he made his home in Rock Hall. Mr. Brilz began his second career with Bramble Construction for 16 years, until he retired in 1993.
He was a dedicated member of St. John?s Catholic Church where he was very active. Mr. Brilz was also a member of the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion, Post #228 in Rock Hall. He loved people, his church, and his family. He was also an expert gardener.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by three daughters, Katie Marge and Dominic of Rock Hall, Helen Fisher and Bryan of Painter, VA, and Laura Brilz and Dinky of Rock Hall; one son, Tony Brilz and Tanya of Rock Hall; two sisters, Lillian Kuntz of California, and Lois Richter of North Dakota,; three brothers, John Brilz of California, Kenneth Brilz of California, and Donald Brilz of North Dakota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Joseph, Will, Anna, Marty, Chance, Mallory, Mason, Bella, and Bennett.
He was predeceased by his son, Raymond W. ?Ray? Brilz, II in 2015.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. John?s Catholic Church in Rock Hall. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 6:00 pm ? 8:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home.
Interment will be in St. John?s Catholic Cemetery, following the service.
