Bio: Norma V. Hoff October 27, 1924 - November 6, 2007Norma Hoff, age 83, longtime Lemmon businesswoman, passed away Tuesday, November 6, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson.NORMA VIRGINIA MISTELSKI was born in Sioux County, ND north of Thunder Hawk to Albert and Helena (Suko) Mistelski. She grew up on a farm south of Keldron and attended a local country school and then graduated from Lemmon High School in 1944. She was employed at the First National Bank in Lemmon. Norma was united in marriage to Christ Hoff on May 14, 1946 at Lemmon. They traveled throughout North and South Dakota working on construction projects. They lived at Shadehill during the construction of Shadehill Reservoir and then moved into Lemmon. During these years, Norma was a fulltime stay at home mom to children Darlene, Stan, Dan, Lanny, and Linda. Norma was planting and raising tomato plants for herself and had more than she needed. After advertising and selling some, she gradually got into the business of raising plants. She started seedlings using mostly small soup cans she pounded a drainage hole in the bottom. She would later open "Norma's Garden Center" which she would supply strong and vigourous vegetable and flower plants that decorated many homes and yards for many years. It has been said that a person must have a knack for growing plants to succeed at gardening. Norma was blessed with a wealth of knowledge on gardening and knew all the tips and techniques in establishing healthy plants. She continued to operate her garden center until her health began to fail. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre in March of 2007. In need of kidney dialysis, she moved to St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson. Norma was an avid gardener and enjoyed bowling and working crossword puzzles. She was active in the VFW. She bowled in numerous tournaments in both North and South Dakota as well as a National Bowling Tournaments in Reno, NV and Bismarck, ND. Many fond memories are of times spent hunting and fishing, especially in the ice fishing bus on New Years Day at Whitlock Bay. Surviving family members include her husband, Christ, Lemmon, SD; 3 sons, Stan (Barb) Hoff, Dell Rapids, SD: Dan (Laurie) Hoff, Lanny (Noni) Hoff, all of Lemmon, SD; 2 daughters, Darlene Enerson, Reeder, ND; Linda (Charlie) Hamand, Lemmon, SD; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Carmen) Enerson, Mandan, ND; Justin (Amber) Enerson, Sioux Falls, SD; Heather (Chris) Rozell, Adrian, MN; Kerry (Chad) Westover) Hayti, SD; Leslie (Ryan) Poper, Brewster, MN; Danci Hoff, Lemmon, SD; Josh (Lacy) Hoff, Lemmon, SD; Jennifer Hoff, Lemmon, SD; Allison (Dan) Jobe, St. Hillaire, MN; Kelsey Hamand, Bismarck, ND; 9 great grandchildren, Austin and Taylor Enerson, Reagan, Mason, and Reese Rozell, Aubre and Ava Westover, Lane Poper, Chezny Jobe; and numerous nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Gene Mistelski; a son-in-law, Gene Enerson, and a nephew, Rick Mistelski. The rosary service will be followed by the Mass of Christian burial, both on Saturday, November 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon. Fr Brian Fawcett will officiate with burial in Greenhill Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers are Alton Treib, Mel Frank, Mel Maxon, Ron Cornelius, Dale Rice, and Leonard Jonas.
