Dr. Robert F. Walter
Evansville, IN
Dr. Robert F. Walter, 97, of Evansville, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 28, 1920 in Evansville to the late Esther (Isham) and Robert Walter.
He was a graduate of Central High School, University of Evansville, and Indiana University Medical School. Robert practiced medicine on Kentucky Avenue in Evansville for 34 years. He did research on Polio with Dr. Salk at the University of Pittsburgh. Robert was a medical director at the Evansville State Hospital and on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club. He was also a WWII veteran and served in Japan.
Dr. Walter is survived by his son; Gregory Walter; daughter, Bonnie (Dr. Tony) Funke; sister, Catherine Groben; grandchildren, Tess, Louis, Ella, and Sophie Funke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elizabeth (Rizen) Walter.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. Visitation will continue from 10:00 am to 10:30 am on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 704 N. First Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am with Father Jay Davidson officiating.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
