WILLIAM RAMUTA, WAR HERO, DIES
William R. Ramuta, 50, a World War II infantryman who was awarded the French Croix de Guerre, died Wednesday (June 22, 1966) in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Hines, IL.
Death followed a brief illness. He had resided at 1302 Colorado Ave.
Mr. Ramuta, who was self-employed for many years following his return from the Army, had been associated with the Book Shop for the past five years.
Born in Joliet on November 9, 1915, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ramuta. Both preceded him in death.
He was educated in the Joliet grade schools and at Joliet Catholic High School before joining the Army.
He was with the Third Division of the 19th ? Artillery. He served overseas almost three years.
His service in the historic "Battle of the Bulge" won the hero's ? for bravery from the French government.
He was in battles in Vgeria (sp?) French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Rome, Arno, southern France and central Europe.
At the time of his discharge he was a staff sergeant.
He was married to the former Louise A. Munch. She survives along with five brothers, Rudolph J., Frank A., Edward M., John R., of Joliet and Joseph S. of New Lenox, and two sisters, Mrs. Francis J. (Josephine) Sumic and Mrs. Jospeh (Ann) Savol of Joliet.
He was a member of Saint Anthony Society 87, KSKJ, the American Fraternal Union 66, American Slovenian Home, Cantigny Post 367, VFW, Joliet Rivals Club, Morna Athletic Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 300, and the St. Joseph Church Holy Name Society.
The funeral will be from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to St. Joseph Church, 420 N. Chicago Street for mass at 9.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday. The Holy Name Society 23, will meet in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. to recite the rosary.
