Deborah (Debbie) Pugh died August 10, 2017 from a sudden illness on the Feast day of St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr of the early church. When asked by the authorities to turn over the treasures of the church, St. Lawrence presented the sick, poor and suffering. The church has lost one of its valuable treasures in Debbie. A devout Catholic, Debbie was a member of both St. Michael's parish in Auburn and St. Mary's in Opelika. Debbie had a gift for singing and loved to share her gift. She sang the "Lord's Prayer" at her graduation from Auburn High School in 1970. She often sang at weddings and funerals, and served as cantor at Masses. She greeted everyone she met with an enthusiastic "the Peace of Christ be with you." Debbie would call her mother, Corinne Sforzini of Auburn, with this blessing every morning. She is predeceased by her father Richard H. Sforzini. Debbie attended cosmetology school and had many happy clients, including her brothers Stephen Sforzini of Auburn, Andrew Sforzini of New York, and Mark Sforzini of Tampa. She was involved with the prison ministry for many years. She also enjoyed baking cakes and celebrating special occasions with her award-winning red velvet cake. Debbie would often accompany herself on the guitar, a hobby she shared with her brother Mike (Linda) Sforzini of Mobile. She loved to play (and win!) games, especially Parcheesi and Scrabble, and she loved to do anything and everything with her oldest brother Richard (Barbara) Sforzini, Jr., who predeceased her. In a family with five brothers, Debbie shared a special bond with her only sister, Suzanne (Nick) Simonelli of Richboro, PA. Debbie had an enormous capacity to love, which she showered on her son Brock L. Pugh of Auburn, grandson Kyle Pugh, and great-granddaughter Sophia Camille. In the last few years of her life, Debbie shared a very special relationship with Jackie Best of Auburn, who was like a daughter to her. Debbie's relationships with her fellow parishioners, her extended family, and her friends were truly the joys of her life.
