Obituary for Marjorie Marie Kiefer (Morgan)
Marjorie Marie Kiefer (Morgan)
Marjorie Marie Kiefer, 91, of Vincent, died Thursday, July 7, 2016. She was born September 3, 1924 in Ludlow, PA to Charles E. and Alice Christenson Morgan. At the time of her death she was survived by two daughters, Alice Alberstadt of Sarasota, FL and Mary Cotton (Wallace) of Sumter, SC; a son, Albert Kiefer (Deborah) of Vincent; six grandchildren Kristine Snyder (Dave), Karen Barricklow (Dan), Kimberly Greene (Michael), Michelle Kiefer-Erb (Aaron), Albert Kiefer (Stephanie) and John-Paul Kiefer; twelve great grandchildren, Kevin Lapp, Erica Snyder, Austin, Riley and Chase Barricklow, Nolan and Colin Greene, Carter Kiefer, Caitlynn and Carys Erb, Juliana and Norah Kiefer. Shortly after her death, her daughter, Mary Cotton, died suddenly in South Carolina. Marjorie was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Kiefer, another daughter, Jean Kiefer, three sisters and three brothers. After losing her parents at a young age, Marjorie was raised by her Aunt Jenny and Uncle Axle Anderson, on their farm in Ludlow, PA. At Ludlow High School Marge began her life-long love of all sports and played on the girls? varsity basketball team. After graduating in 1942, Marge set off on her own to Erie, PA where she supported the WWII war effort making military radio transistors at Bliley Electric. Marjorie married Albert A. Kiefer in 1944, and shortly after starting their family she was an integral partner in building their home on 32nd St. in Erie, where they remained until moving to Deltona, FL for retirement. Earlier in life she remained active in women?s and couples bowling leagues, worked in the kitchen at the Cascade Club, was a meticulous and talented seamstress, and will be remembered for serving cinnamon kuchen, cabbage balls, sand tarts, and cream puffs at family parties. Soon after her husband?s death in 1982, Marge moved to Marietta to play a more active role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although technically retired, Marge worked part-time at the office of The American Cancer Society, Washington County Health Department, and a Marietta College Sorority. She provided childcare for Tommy Pethel and he was nurtured by her love and care for eight years. In 2007 she fulfilled a life-long dream of salmon fishing in the Pacific waters of Alaska. Marge was a feisty, opinionated, competitive woman who remained active in her community of friends at Restoration Plaza apartment for seniors in Barlow. She often was the high scorer in Wii Bowling, played Euchre, and continued a friendly rivalry between supporters of the local Warren H.S. basketball team and her allegiance to her grandchildren?s Fort Frye Cadets. Marge was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and was delighted at their recent success. Although she did not enjoy NBA, college basketball was her passion. Her DVR got quite the workout during March Madness when she rarely missed a game. Marge was a strong woman who overcame the premature loss of several family members over the years and rebounded from multiple illnesses that would have been too much for most people. None-the-less, she remained faithful in her beliefs and was a loyal member of St. Ambrose Church where a celebration of life mass will be held Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:30 am, luncheon to follow at Restoration Plaza, 70 White Oak Woods Drive, Vincent. Burial of ashes will be next to her husband at Deltona Memorial Gardens on Orange City, FL. Donations may be made to Strecker Cancer Center.
