Mack, 86, of Viola, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1992 at United Medical Center in Moline. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Viola, with Rev. James DeBisschop officiating. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery, Viola.The Rosary was recited at 6.30 p.m., Tuesday at Jinks Funeral Home, Viola.She was born April 7, 1905 in Viola a daughter of Louis and Ida Roetler Schaechter. She graduated from the former Viola High School and attended Western Illinois Teacher's College in Macomb. She graduated from MaryCrest College in Davenport in 1963.She married Walter "Pete" Mack in January of 1929 in Viola. He died July 29, 1954.A teacher, she taught at Story Point, southwest of Viola during the 1920's and later taught at Keithsburg until the 1950's. In the 1960's she taught in the Viola schools and later became a teacher in the Rock Island School System where she was one of the first to teach the trainable mentally handicapped, retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Viola, its Altar and Rosary Society, and a member of the Illinois Retired Teacher's Association.She was a past town clerk of Viola and was a member of two local card clubs.Survivors include a son, Tony Mack of Viola; a daughter, Eleanor Forsyth of Oskaloosa, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Steiner of Sacramento, CA and Josephine Carlson/Hunting of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Charles Schaechter of Viola and Rev. Louis Schaechter of Rock Island.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Dennis; two sisters, Catherine and Genievive; and a brother, John.Grandsons, Pete, Tom, John and Jim Mack and John, Mark and Mike Forsyth, served as pallbearers.
