Bio: Harold Arthur Chase, 91, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday, January 26, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 18, 1921, in Mason City, Nebraska, to Jess & Lillie Mae (Davis) Chase. Harold grew up in Mason City and attended school there graduating with the class of 1941. He was an outstanding basketball player and team captain. He married Irdell Dona Chartraw on May 25, 1944, his high school sweetheart in Broken Bow while on furlough. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Barbara. Harold enlisted into the United States Army on September 17, 1942, at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945, at Fort Bliss, Texas. Harold was awarded the Victory Medal and American Theater Asiatic Pacific Theater Good Conduct Medal.Upon his return to Nebraska, Harold and Irdell lived in Gothenburg where he worked from 1945 to 1961 at Gothenburg Motors the Ford Garage in Gothenburg. In 1962 the family moved to Lexington where Harold worked at the car dealership, Hodges Autoworld, and was a front end wheel alignment specialist. He would spend the next eighteen years working at the dealership. Harold was a longtime cook at Hodges during the annual company picnics. He made two barbeques out of 50 gallon drums for cooking steaks. After he retired, Harold sold for Bell Additives and enjoyed popping corn at Platte Valley Auto Mart until Irdell's health started to deteriorate. Harold enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, tinkering in his shop, welding and fishing. He was a faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington. Survivors include his daughter: Barbara Chase of Lexington, Nebraska, and his beloved canine therapy companion, Benny. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irdell, as well as many aunts and uncles.A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastors John Shields, Paul Pack and Paul Thomas officiating. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
