Bio: William Joseph Holtman passed away at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Jump Holtman, his son William Joseph Holtman, Jr, three grandchildren Cathy, Dan and Greg, and daughter-in-law Corey and great-grandsons Wyatt & Chase.He was born September 23, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland. His family moved to the Highland area of Denver in 1924 and he graduated from North High School in 1939. Bill then attended the Colorado School of Mines and graduated in 1943 with a degree in Metallugical Engineering. Commissioned into the United States Army in 1943, he transferred to the United States Air Force as a Pilot, where he flew in the China-Burma-India Theater from 1944-1946. He was discharged as first lieutenant in 1946. William (or "Mr. H" as he was known to his colleagues) began working for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad on February 5th, 1947 as Chief Metallurgist. Throughout his career on the D&RGW he held many positions from Trainmaster to Superintendent eventually becoming President and CEO Chairman. After the merger of the Rio Grande Railroad with the Southern Pacific Transportation Company in 1988 he served as Vice Chairman until he retired on December 31st, 1992. Shortly after returning from his service abroad he married Doris Ruth Jump of Arvada, Colorado on April 12th, 1947. They welcomed their only child, William on June 14th, 1955, who followed in his father?s footsteps and also worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. After his retirement Bill spent most of his time photographing his three grandchildren, and later his two great-grandchildren. Doris and Bill spent some time travelling, but never strayed far from their home in Lakewood, Colorado.Funeral Mass, Monday, February 17, 2014 at 10:00 am, located at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033.
