- [S927] Obituary.
December 17, 1963, Robert Vint Guthmiller was born to Benjamin and Beverly Ann Guthmiller the younger of two sons. As a pre-schooler he was reading the grocery ads to his mother telling her the items on sale. Through his school years he excelled academically. He will never be forgotten for his contribution to the Mission San Jose High School Freshman class for spirit week when he dressed in a pink ballet tutu much to the chagrin of his older brother. Bob was well-known in high school. No one was a stranger to him, he would casually strike up a conversation with those he encountered.
While in high school he attended Young Life. It was through YL that Bob came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and commit his life to following Him.
After high school he attended Ohlone Community College and Chapman University to study computer science. Following college, he was employed by Lockheed Martin Aerospace in Sunnyvale until his position required a transfer out of state. Consistent with his nature, he declined the transfer to stay in the Bay Area near family.
Bob's passions included computers and anything techie; books especially those by Tom Clancy and Stephen Crane; sports his favorite teams being the Oakland A's, San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Jose Sharks; country, classic rock 'n' roll and instrumental music; Top Gun and many other movies.
Bob will be missed by many who enjoyed conversing with him both in person and on Facebook. The outpouring of heart-felt posts on fb testifies to the warm heart and gentle nature of this kind man who departed from our presence much too soon. He will forever be a 49er.
Bob went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2013. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Vinton and Muriel Parkin, John and Dorthea Guthmiller, his parents Benjamin and Beverly Guthmiller. He is survived by his brother Bill, his sister-in-law Cyndie, his nephew Ben and his niece Jennifer Guthmiller.
Family and friends are invited to Bob's Tailgate Party to celebrate his life on Friday, November 1, at 1pm at the Chapel of the Angels in Fremont. In memory of Bob's passion for sports, guests are invited to wear sports apparel from one of Bob's favorite teams.
