She attended elementary school in Venturia and high school in Ashley. She married Herb Thurn on March 31, 1951, in Camp Rucker, Alabama. They lived in Bismarck for the last 42 years.Mildred worked for the Bismarck Public Schools for 18 years. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, where she participated in many activities including the Quilters Group. Mildred was an active member of the local and national Germans from Russia Heritage Society. She enjoyed many activities with her family and traveling with her husband during their retirement. She did many scrapbooks of those activities.
