(Jerry) Heckel, age 56, of Rapid City, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at his home in Rapid City. Gerald was born in Eureka, SD, to Morris R. and Hulda (Mehlhaff) Heckel. He attended schools in Central City, SD, graduating from Deadwood High School in 1967. He then attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD, graduating in 1969. Gerald married Nancy Hight on January 26, 1990. He worked for Northwestern Bell, as a Central Office Technician, retiring from Qwest after 32 years of service. He then worked at Sanmina SCI for ten months before ill health forced him to resign. Gerald was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, the HAM Radio Club, and Telephone Pioneers of America. Gerald is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Rapid City; mother and stepfather, Hulda and Bob Rogers of Deadwood; stepdaughter, Kathy (Scott) Coposky of Rapid City; stepson, David (Amy) Hight of Keller, TX; brothers, Tim (Alicia) Heckel of Gillette, WY, Rob Rogers of Thornton, CO, Matt Rogers, of Rapid City; sisters, Jan (Gary) Hargens of Rapid City, Karen Rogers of Gillette, WY, Renee (Dan) Bridenstine of Lead, SD; a sister-in-law, Deb Hoffman, of Deadwood, SD; a brother-in-law, John Hoffman, of San Jacinto, CA; an uncle, Larry Heckel of Loveland, CO; aunts, Emma Goehring and Lela Fischer of Eureka, SD; two granddaughters, Katie and Kayla Coposky of Rapid City, nieces, Megan Bridenstine, Lauren Hoffman, Melisa and Lindsey Tinnell, and nephews, Josh Briden-stine and Brock Heckel. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Heckel, and his grandparents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 24, 2005, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Marcin Garbacz presiding. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood, SD. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
