Dear Ursula,
Thank you for your email and glad I got an answer.
I ve been working on my family tree for a good while now, and the day off
the 100th year of the Armistice this year (last Sunday), I discovered and
finally confirmed for the first time that I have some ancestors born in
Germany. I knew with their surnames that it was german originally but I
didn?t think that I would have been able to trace the roots in Rodalben!
I speak english and french, but I?m from Brittany, the Celtic part of
France on the west coast and I?m currently living in Cork, Ireland for
the past 12 years now.
I?m not a professional genealogist either, but I do like it for some
reason and more and more?! But on top of that, I?m also involved in
genetic genealogy in the aim to find new cousins and sharing the stories
of our families. I?m involved in French teaching as member of the Board
of Director of the Alliance Francaise in Cork, and President of the Breton
society in Ireland.
I found your website when I was seeking where Rodalben was located, and
this is how I contacted you.
The below is the name of my ancestors and I wonder why have they moved to
France. I believe, it might be because of the Franco-Prussian war. Based
on your research and the data base, have the family moved for this reason?
Joseph HAUCK - My 3rd Great Grand Father Joseph HAUCK
<https://gw.geneanet.org/ftiay6bgczfti?n=hauck&oc=1&p=joseph> Born in 1819
(I don?t know where yet, but I suspect in Rodalben) Died 31/10/1893 in
Seine et Marne, France when he was 74.
He married with Marie Eve KEILHAUER (for some reason I found her under Eva
Keilhauer on some documents) Eva KEILHAUER
<https://gw.geneanet.org/ftiay6bgczfti?lang=en&p=eva&n=keilhauer> Mariage
20/03/1851 in Rodalben, Südwestpfalz, Germany. Born 1829 in Rodalben,
Südwestpfalz, Germany. Died 09/01/1874 in Metz, Annexed Lorraine See the
attached document I found about Marie Eve Keilhauer, it is in double
language french and german.
They had 4 (5) child, but I had a look at Geneanet website (you might know
it), I found a lot of resources and one additional son about them but this
is not documented, so I prefer to make sure that I have the necessary
documentation.
Ludwig HAUCK (undocumented son, he has not been added to my family tree
yet) Ludwig HAUCK
<https://gw.geneanet.org/ftiay6bgczfti?lang=en&p=ludwig&n=hauck> Born
05/12/1851 in Rodalben
Louis HAUCK - 1st son in my family tree
Born 1853 (no record where he is born yet but I suspect in France)
He had a job in France in 1887
Jean HAUCK - 2nd son in my family tree
Born 02/11/1858 in Gentilly, France
Died 12/12/1860 in Dammartin sur Tigeaux, France
Jean Jospeh Guillaume HAUCK - 3rd son in my family tree
Born 25/04/1861 in Dammartin sur Tigeaux, France
Died - I don?t know yet but I think he died in France in the suburban of
Paris
Joseph HAUCK - Joseph HAUCK
<https://gw.geneanet.org/ftiay6bgczfti?lang=en&p=joseph&n=hauck&oc=3> Born
03/10/1863 in Rodalben, Südwestpfalz, Germany Married 20/12/1896 with
Marie Eugénie GROSS in Innenheim, Alsace, France Died - I don?t know
yet but I think he died in France in the suburban of Paris
In addition, Marie Eve Keilhauer?s mum is mentioned under Marie
Brendamour born in Rodalben, but it is incorrectly spelt, I noticed that
Brendamour was a name well know in the area of Rodalben, Südwestpfalz.
The weblink I gave you are the people that have been mentioned by some
other people that have no direct connection with my ancestors, they are
just an addition in their family tree.
Also, Hauck has been many times incorrectly spelt in France as I found
some document either under HAUCH or HOCK. Same for Marie Eve KEILHAUER, I
found here under KELANET or KELAUER.
Hope this helps.
And well done to you for making a such resource for everyone, I?m the
proof that what you have done so far on your website can help everyone who
has (unexpected) german ancestors in these areas.
Kind Regards,
Joss
