BercelLower BurrellGeorge Raymond Bercel, 65, of Lower Burrell, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, in Allegheny Valley Hospital. He was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Latrobe to the late George C. and Mary Elizabeth (Meyers) Bercel and had been a lifelong resident of the local area. Mr. Bercel was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received Sharpshooter, Expert and Good Conduct medals. He was the owner and operator of Bercel's Archery, Lower Burrell, for the past 22 years and before opening his shop was a design engineer for Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh. He enjoyed hunting, archery, fishing, working with tools, football with his grandsons, sightseeing, traveling, birds, both watching and feeding, and, when he was younger, playing the trombone. He also was an avid fan of the Steelers, Penguins and Olympics. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra Lee (Cook) Bercel; daughter, Christine Ann (Erik) Staley, of Lower Burrell; sons, Erik Christopher (Michelle) Bercel, of Apollo, and G. Travis (Kathleen) Bercel, of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Skyler and Colton Staley and Cody Brown, and sisters, Dianne (Richard) Marmo, of Penn Hills, and Madelyn "Dolly" (Edward) Pugsley, of Omaha, Neb. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday.
