Sister Leonard Thomas, taught in 3 dioceses
Sister Leonard Thomas, a retired teacher and member of the Sisters of St.
Joseph, died of cardiac arrest yesterday in Sewickley Valley Hospital. She
was 88. Sister Thomas, who lived in the sisters' motherhouse in Baden,
entered the order Sept. 8, 1919, from St. John Gualbert Cathedral in
Johnstown. She made her profession of vows Jan. 3, 1925. Until her
retirement, she served as a teacher in the elementary schools of the
Pittsburgh, Altoona-Johnstown and Greensburg dioceses. Sister Thomas is
survived by two sisters, Gertrude Thomas of Baden and Pauline Buchan of
Circleville, W.Va. Viewing will be from 3 to 9 p.m.-today and 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the motherhouse. A Mass will be said at 11 a.m.
Wednesday in the chapel of the motherhouse, 1020 State St., Baden.
Interment will be in the sisters' cemetery on the motherhouse grounds.
