Bio: Ottmar, Ruben: "Graveside service for Ruben Ottmar, 87, is scheduled at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Mountain View Cemetery, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, with the Rev Barbara Caviezel of Harrington United Methodist Church officiating. A long time Lincoln County contractor and builder, Mr Ottmar died Oct 12 at his Davenport home. Born Sept 22, 1914, in Wheeler, WA, to German farmers John W and Amelia (Miller) Ottmar, he attended school there and in Ritzville, graduating from Harrington High School in 1932. Although he was an avid gardener after his retirement, he chose not to follow the family footsteps of farming but trained instead in diesel motor mechanics in Seattle. He eventually went into carpentry, which became his life long vocation. He worked as a civilian carpenter for government projects at Geiger Field, Coulee Dam and Pacific City, OR, during WW II. Over the next 40 years, he built or remodeled more than 100 homes in Lincoln County, as well as major renovations to the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in Davenport. He also built Edna's Drive-in, the Times building, the Lincoln County Museum, the city hall and library and fire station. He met his future wife, Laura Oakes, at Christian Endeavor. They ?eloped' to Coeur d'Alene, where they married Oct 7, 1939, in the home of the Christian Church minister. They moved into their first home, built by Ruben, on ?Bungalow Ridge' near the county court house in Davenport. He would live the remainder of his life there, with several remodelings and additions. He was a charter member of the Davenport Lions Club, a member of First Presbyterian Church and had served as a city councilman. He enjoyed family events, visiting people in the hospital and nursing home, watching television, reading westerns and being with his cats, two of which he left behind. He lived two years after being diagnosed with lung cancer. His wife preceded him in death n 1995 and a brother, Alvin, died earlier this year. He leaves a daughter, Becky (and Gary) Anderson, of Quilcene, WA; a brother, Walter (and Linda) of Marysville; sister-in-law, Elsie Ottmar of Harrington; and numerous nieces and nephews."
