After finishing elementary school, he worked on the family farm for a few years. He then returned to school and graduated in 1937 from the Harrington High School, Harrington, Lincoln County, WA. In 1940 he graduated from the Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. He married Marjorie B. Fiske 16 March 1941 at Harrington, Lincoln County, WA. He worked 7 ½ years for the Employment Security Department. Then he farmed for eight years in the Harrington area. He then returned to the Employment Security Department and retired after serving 25 years. He enjoyed playing golf and liked classical music.
