Cordes, 81, Graystone Court, Bellemead, died Thursday afternoon at her home.She was born in State College, daughter of the late Russell M. and Elizabeth (Barto) Eyer. She married Richard L. Cordes on Nov. 2, 1949, in Winchester, Va., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1989.Surviving are five daughters: Susan A. Kirkpatrick, Nancy L. Dillen (John Panek), Judy D. King, Sherri L. Bennett and JoAnna R. Humphreys, all of Bellwood; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Eyer; a sister, Beverly Barr; and a granddaughter, Andrea Eckenrod.After her retirement from Modern Communications, Joyce was employed in the communications departments of Altoona Regional Health System, Garvey Manor Nursing Home and Altoona Center for Nursing Care. She was also a volunteer at Altoona Regional Health System, Garvey Manor and Blair Senior Services. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood, and also belonged to the John M. Anderson American Legion Auxiliary, Bellwood, and Bavarian Aid Society, where she participated in the Golden Nugget Club and Horseshoe Seniors Club. She was a former member of the Heidelberg Country Club, Swiss Club and Unter Uns.Joyce was a founding member of the Northern Blair County Relay For Life Sisterhood Team. She met with different quilting clubs and made quilts for her family and friends. Her quilts were also major fundraisers for the Sisterhood Team as well as for The Logan Miller Foundation for her great-grandson. She enjoyed the times spent on trips to the beach and bus trips with her sister, Beverly, and friends at Graystone.Joyce and her daughters spent many loving times having fun together. The cookbook she wrote for her girls will preserve her wonderful Christmas cookies and rhubarb pies for many generations to come.Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, the Rev. Robert Stump officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The Hope Center, 421 Main St., Bellwood, PA 16617.
