Bio: "Jim PattenJames (Jimmy) Patten, born December 26, 1921, in San Francisco, died August 25, 2017, in San Rafael. Loving husband of Margie, father of Donald Patten, Honolulu, Patricia Conway, San Rafael, grandfather of Joey and Jamie Mesquite. As a San Francisco Native, Jim swam the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay every morning before school with his father. His love for the water was inherited by his children and grandchildren who all learned to swim when they began to walk.Jim served in the Navy during World War II, first as a pipe fitter in Mare Island and then later on board the USS Nereus, traveling to Japan. In addition to taking care of his family by starting a successful plumbing business in San Francisco, in 1947, Jim's first love, other than his wife and kids, was boating. He built his first wooden boat in wood shop at Galileo High School in San Francisco, launched his creation at Aquatic Park, where it promptly sank! This was not to be his last attempt at boating, however. He went on to own several large cruising yachts and a sailboat. Favorite pastimes were with Margie, first on the Delta and years later, at sea, cruising on their 48 foot Tollycraft, "Margie", from as far south as Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, north to the untamed land of Alaska and Glacier Bay. Long time members of Bridge Marina Yacht Club. St. Francis Yacht Club and Marin Yacht Club, the Patten's social life revolved around boating and the many friends they made over the years. He enjoyed the company of his two grandchildren, Joey and Jamie Mesquite, from Little League, Swim Team and Ballet on through College. As lifelong San Francisco Giants fans, Jim and Marge endured the harsh weather at Candlestick Park year after year as season ticket holders. They seldom missed Spring training in Arizona.A true love story, Jim and Margie enjoyed 67 years of married life. Preceded in death by his beloved Margie in 2008, Jim spent the last years of his life remembering the good times. Reminded by his daughter when the end was near, Patti told him he did good, took care of his family, and could leave this life in peace, knowing his job was done and he could join Margie for eternity.Predeceased in death were his brother, Bill Patten of Oakland, his sisters, Evelyn Dulfer of San Francisco, and Genevieve Zinn of San Mateo.Donations to Hospice by the BayPrivate service, Yountville Cemetery, Yountville, California."- San Francisco Chronicle (September 24, 2017)Ashes buried 02/06/2018
