Bio: Maurine MyrtueJuly 13, 1913-March 22, 2006 Maurine Myrtue, 92, of Smithland, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. She was born July 13, 1913 in rural Smithland to Ralph and Margaret (Yockey) Cory. She graduated from Smithland High School in 1930. On December 31, 1936, she married Harry Myrtue in Fremont, Nebraska. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2005. She was a teacher in rural schools and had lived in Sioux City, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska before moving to a farm near Smithland in 1944. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Smithland, the Ladies Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Cemetery Society. She was an avid reader and a good cook, particularly pies. In her earlier years she did sewing and embroidering. Survivors include her husband, Harry of Smithland; four sons, Russel Myrtue and his wife, Betty of Kenner, Louisiana, Dr. Ronald Myrtue and his wife, Lorna of Lebanon, Oregon, Charles Myrtue and Dean Myrtue and his wife, Joie, all of Smithland; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Margaret Myrtue in 1986; an infant son, Floyd, in 1941; two brothers, Gordon and John Cory; and a sister, Ellna Folkers. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the United Methodist Church, Smithland, Iowa, with Rev. Robert W. Fritzmeier officiating. The pianist was Mrs. Jack Jordan and the vocalist, Don Forney, sang the selections, "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Amazing Grace. Casket Bearers were Russel Myrtue, Dr. Ronald Myrtue, Charles Myrtue, Dean Myrtue, Christine Myrtue and Laura Myrtue. Interment was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, with Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa, assisting the family
