Obituary for James A. Weger
James Anthony (Jim) Weger of Delphos went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born April 29, 1931 in Delphos to Anthony and Lucille (Mandery) Weger.
On August 22, 1959 he married the love of his life, Joan (Wellmann) Weger, in St. John church. He is survived by Joan, his children, John (Marcia) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Joseph (Karen) of Rocky River, Ohio, and James M (Tammy) of Jupiter, Florida. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Rebecca (Kegan) Keller, Kathryn (Kaleb) Ward, Julianne, Joseph P, Elizabeth, Kevin and Kyle Weger, and 1 great granddaughter, Carter Keller.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his 3 sisters, Ruth (Clark), Lois Weger and Marilyn (Popovich).
Jim graduated from Delphos St. John High School in 1949. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Dayton in 1953, and Master of Business Administration from Dayton in 1975. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, with a primary assignment in Munich, Germany.
Jim was an active member of the Delphos and Lima communities and a tireless contributor to business and volunteer positions. His business career included positions with Westinghouse Corporation in Lima, the New Delphos Manufacturing Company, and as the first City Income Tax Administrator for the City of Delphos. For 40 years he often worked at his day job from 8 until 5, had dinner with the family, and then worked from 6 until 11 PM at positions including the Weger Dry Goods store, raising steer herds, activities with his partners in Delphos Improved Rentals, and as the accountant for the Delphos Public Library. Jim also made time for many night and weekend projects with his wife and sons. He also served as a Washington Township trustee.
Jim?s volunteer activities included the Delphos Jaycees, St Vincent DePaul Society, and active membership in St. John?s Parish. He was a member of the Delphos Club for over 40 years, and served in officer positions. He and Joan were members of the Ohio Polka Boosters for 35 years and enjoyed many wonderful friends and experiences with the group. Jim and Joan were also frequent travelers in retirement with many trips to visit children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Aspen Colorado and Maroon Bells were favorite family destinations.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 28 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Military Rites will be conducted at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth Street Delphos. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 P.M. on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John?s Parish Foundation or the Delphos Public Library.
