Bio: David Louis Schwengler, 56, Bismarck, died Nov. 22, 2005, at his home following a brief, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov., 26, 2005, at Church of St. Anne with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.He was born Sept. 11, 1949, in Bismarck, to Louis C. and Frances (Oster) Schwengler. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1967, received an Associate in Arts degree from Bismarck Junior College in 1969, and a bachelor of science in education degree from Minot State College in 1972.David was united in marriage to Dorothea Van Vleet on May 25, 1968, in Bismarck. To this union, three sons were born - David, Kyle, and Nicholas. He was very happy when Erin joined the family and became his daughter. Family was extremely important to him and he spent as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren.After receiving his college degree, David worked for Avco Financial Services managing offices in Cherokee, Shenandoah, and Sioux City, Iowa. He was promoted to marketing director and training coordinator for six states and the family moved to Omaha. In 1980, he accepted a position with First Federal Savings and Loan in Bismarck so he could spend more time with his family. He started as a loan officer and quickly progressed to the position of senior vice president. In 1991, he started a new career as a real estate appraiser for Dakota Appraisal and Consulting.David enjoyed spending his leisure time outdoors cruising in one of his classic vehicles, fishing, golfing, and hunting.He was a member of Capital City Lions Club, serving as president in 1992-1993, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship from Lions Club International for dedicated humanitarian services.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dorothea; his sons and daughter-in-law, David, Kyle and Erin, and Nicholas, all of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Allison, Kristen and Kendall; his father, Louis, Bismarck; one sister, LaVon (Steve) Delzer, Riverdale; two brothers, Tom (Anita), Hamilton, Mont., and Louis (Mary), Rapid City, S.D.; and several nieces and a nephew.He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Frances; one sister, Lynette; and a niece, Dana Delzer.In lieu of flowers, David requested a scholarship be set up in his name at Medcenter One College of Nursing. Donations for this purpose may be sent to the college at 512 N. 7th Street, Bismarck, N.D. 58501, or to his family.Bismarck Tribune November 24, 2005
