Bio: Louis Schwengler, 88, Bismarck, died May 16, 2010, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Wednesday, May 19, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.Louis was born Feb. 6, 1922, the son of Adam and Regina (Heintz) Schwengler, at Solen. He grew up in Solen and graduated from Solen High School in 1939. Louis entered the U.S. Navy in 1939 and saw action in the South Pacific on the USS Melvin during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On Oct. 19, 1948, he married Frances Oster at Bismarck. They made their home in Bismarck, where Louis worked in the area for trucking and freighting companies. He retired from Midwest Motor Express in 1977.He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, hunting and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Moose Club, VFW, American Legion and the Teamsters.Louis is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, LaVon and Steve Delzer, Riverdale; his sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Anita Schwengler, Hamilton, Mont., Louis Jr. and Mary Schwengler, Rapid City, S.D., and Dorothea Schwengler, Bismarck; his sisters, Betty Swenson, Bismarck, Josie Himmelspach, Bismarck, and Alice Ereth Mandan; his brothers, Jake, Fargo, Gene, Park Rapids, Minn., Pete, Anoka, Minn., and Bill, Mandan; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; his son, David; his daughter, Lynette; his granddaughter, Dana Delzer; his great-grandson, Brennan Kyle; parents; stepmother, Elizabeth; brothers, Adam, Tony and Stanley; and sisters, Rose Glasser and Marge Sprague.Go to www.parkwayfuneral.com to share memories of Louis and sign the online guest book.Bismarck Tribune May 18, 2010
