Obituary for John Kuntz
John Kuntz, age 91,of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will be held in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
John was born on August 18, 1923, the son of Innozenz and Eva (Emineth) Kuntz. He was raised on a farm south of Glen Ullin, North Dakota where he attended school until the eighth grade. John helped on the family farm until he entered into the United States Army at the age of twenty-one for two years. He served in the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged from military service as a Corporal. Following military service he moved back to the farm where he seismographed for four months and worked for Johnson Construction for nine months . In 1950, John moved to Glendive where he remained until his time of death.
John met and later married Violet Preston on September 27, 1952. As a couple they made Glendive their home where they raised their children together. John and Violet moved their family out to Marsh Road on December 31, 1954. John worked a variety of jobs throughout his life before becoming the owner and operator of Kuntz Plumbing and Heating in 1967 until 1988 when he retired.
John enjoyed playing the Accordion and playing in bands. He took pleasure in watching baseball, horse racing, rodeo, playing solitaire, and watching The Lawrence Welk Show. While the kids were growing up he always enjoyed going hunting and fishing with them. John was always willing to lend a helping hand.
John was a member of the VFW, American Legion Club, Elks Lodge, and the Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Innozenz and Eva; parents-in-law; wife, Violet; son, John J. Kuntz; brothers, Joe, Steve, Pete and Fred; sisters, Frances Christmann, Pauline Sailer and Margaret Bosch; brothers-in-law, Ray Sailer, Carl Christmann and Don Preston, and sister-in-law, Shirley Kuntz.
Survivors include his children, Duane Kuntz, Merlin (Valorie) Kuntz, Gerald Kuntz, Kathy (Rick) Wegmann, Kris (Carl) Harpster all of Glendive, Kenneth (Wilma) Kuntz of Tacoma, Washington, Krystal (Rich) Hook of Laramie, Wyoming, Darrell Kuntz of Ridgecrest, California, Darren (Hiroe) Kuntz of Sagamihara, Japan; brother, George (Jenny) Kuntz of Missoula, Montana; sister, Mary Anne (Art) Wuerch of Essex, Ontario; brothers-in-law, Carl Bosch of Mandan, North Dakota and Robert (Carole) Preston of Dickinson, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Josie Kuntz of New Braunfels, Texas; twenty-five grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
