Christman, Magdalena Saloma Christman nee MatzSource--Monroe County Beacon Woodsfield, OhioPublished--April 1957Lena Matz Christian[should read--Christman] was born on July 9, 1878, a daughter of Louis[Ludwig] and Christina Meckling Matz. She departed this life on April 2, 1957 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 23 days. Mrs. Christman was baptized into the Christian faith on March 6, 1879 and she took the vows of confirmation on December 26, 1892 being in the same confirmation class as her future husband.She was married to George L. Christman on June 19, 1900 and to this union were born nine children. One daughter died in infancy.Surviving are her husband; one sister, Rachel Christman of Lewisville, Rural Route and one brother, William Matz, of Woodsfield; and her eight children, three sons and five daughters; Arthur Christman of Wooster, Route 4; Elma Christman, of Lewisville, Route 1; Esther Claus, of Lewisville, Route 1; Clarence Christman, of Apple Creek; Gertrude Kahrig of Woodsfield, Route 3; Laura Kahrig of Lewisville, Route 2; Paul Christman of Cambridge, Ohio and Beryl Claus of Lewisville, Route 1, who lived in the home with her parents. twenty-four grandchildren and eight grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Christman lived her entire life in the St. John's Church community. She was a life member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. She was devoted to her family and shared with them her deep and abiding faith in God.Brief services were held at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock with additional services at two o'clock at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Rev. George W. Varnes officiated.
