Leo V. Arehart, Sr.
Ventura / Camarillo / Santa Maria, CA

Leo Arehart was a good man, a great friend, a loving husband, and devoted father & grandfather.
Leo was born in Great Falls, Montana, and spent his childhood in Missoula, Montana. As a young man, Leo was a daredevil who loved hotrods, racing boats, and doing anything else that could generate thrills. His passions also included horseback riding & roping. He was known as a fun-loving character who never missed the best parties, nor any opportunities for making mischief.
From 1963 to 1967, Leo served his country in the Army National Guard and specialized as a Paratrooper.
In 1966, Leo met the love of his life, Sandi Fraelich, and were married in that same year. In 1971 they had twin children Rebecca and Leo, Jr. Leo began his career selling cars in Montana, but soon entered the family hotel business. In 1973, he and Sandi moved to Ventura, CA where they founded the Vagabond Hotel, which they ran for 20 years.
Leo was a passionate golfer, and a long-time member of the Saticoy Country Club. He was one of a rare few individuals who have shot three Hole-In-Ones on the Saticoy course.
In 1999, Leo & Sandi moved from Ventura to Camarillo, and then to Santa Maria where they have resided for the last 12 years. In November 2016, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family, including their son Leo, daughter Becky, son-in-law Theo Kracke, and their two grandchildren, Katie Ann (11) and Dylan Robert (8).
Leo will be remembered as a sweet man who always had a positive attitude, and who lived his life to the fullest. He was a devoted fan of his grandchildrens' sporting events, and would regularly delight the kids with surprise appearances. Leo was loved by many, and will live on in our memories forever.
Leo is survived by his wife Sandi, his children Becky & Leo Jr., his son-in-law Theo, and grandchildren Katie & Dylan. He is also survived by his siblings Richard, Rochelle, Gail, James and Suzanne He is predeceased by his parents Catherine and Wendell Arehart.
A Viewing and Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA. The Viewing will be from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and the Rosary will begin at 6:30pm.
