OBITUARY
Reuben H. Heckenlaible
Reuben Herbert Heckenlaible was
born Aug. 10, 1923 in Freeman, S.D.,
to Carl and Helen Heckenlaible. He at-tended
Knodel School.
He took over the family farm at a
very young age. He married Linda
Streyle on June 26, 1949. From this
marriage came Jarvis and Sherri. Reu-ben
and Linda continued working the
family farm for many years. Linda
passed July 4, 1997. Reuben contin-ued
to farm until his health sent him
to live at the Salem Mennonite Home
in July 2011.
He loved watching his children
compete in high school sports and con-tinued
to follow high school athletics
for many years after. He often traveled
to many of his grandchildren's activi-ties
and sporting events. His favorite
past times included playing pinochle,
visiting his friends at Papa's, wood-working,
and bringing sweet corn to
friends. Reuben also spent time at lo-cal
dances and loved playing music
with his family. He was a member of
the Grace Lutheran Brotherhood and
church choir.
Reuben passed away May 14,2012.
Grateful for having shared Reuben's
life are his children: Jarvis (Glenda),
Harrisburg, S.D.; Sherri Wire, Madi-son,
S.O.; five grandchildren: Justin
(Heidi) Heckenlaible, Worthington,
Minn., Tina Heckenlaible, Sioux Falls,
S.D., Jerae (Kendra) Wire, Madison,
Monte Wire, Mitchell, S.D., Haley
Wire, Madison; and three great-grand-children:
Trey Heckenlaible, Nolan
Wire and Laynie Wire.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Linda; two sisters:
Laura Gross and Leone Zimmer; and
son-in-law Mark Wire.
His funeral was held at Grace Lu-theran
Church on Friday, May 18 at
10:30 a.m. in Menno, S.D. Pastor The-resa
Jacobson officiated the service
with Arlene Klaudt as organist.
Pallbearers were Gordon Streyle,
Paul Vehle, Brian Knittle, Mark Gross,
Mark Ulmer, Mark Scaeffer. Honorary
pallbearers were Reuben's grandchil-dren.
Interment was at Freeman City
Cemetery.
