Bio: Le Mars Daily Sentinel (Oct. 13, 2006)Edith Delperdang, 89, of Remsen, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. Edith Delperdang was born April 24, 1917, at rural Granville, the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth (Henrich) List. Edith was raised in the Granville area where she received her primary education in the rural school system. She then resided with her grandmother at Alton, where she received her secondary education, graduating from St. Mary's Academy there in 1934. She then attended Western Union College at Le Mars, where she obtained her teachers certificate and then taught in country schools in the area. On Sept. 24, 1940 she married Gerald Delperdang at Granville. They farmed in the Marcus area until 1949 when they moved to a farm north of Remsen where they continued to farm until Gerald's death on Dec. 26, 1973. She moved into Remsen in 1975, and remained very active in St. Mary's Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, did the altar linens and vestments, and helped make altar breads for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers and St. Mary's Guild, Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters and Mission Association, being very active and holding offices in these organizations. She was also a member of the Happy Siesta Auxiliary and a Peer Group Volunteer, and the Oscar Cash program, donating much of her time for all these organizations. Volunteering was a big part of Edith's life after she moved to town, enjoying it throughly. The Happy Siesta residents would cheer up when Edith walked in the door; they loved her dearly. Family has also been the biggest part of Edith's life. She always enjoyed her children and grandchildren coming to visit. When holidays came around, she would do the cooking for all the families, pies being her speciality. Her hands were never idle. She made many, many quilts, afghans and baby blankets for both her family and the missions. In October 2005, Edith moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars, and remained there until she fell, breaking her arm on Sept. 15, 2006. Since then she had resided at Happy Siesta.
