Mrs. Marian Schmaltz, 83, of Hettinger, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger. Rev. Mark Eidahl will officiate and burial will be at a later date at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Apr. 1 from 10:00 a.m. to the service, all at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger.
Marian Schatz was born on July 20, 1925 in Hettinger County, Regent, ND to John and Rose (Zimmerman) Schatz. She spent the greater part of her teen-age years helping her mother raise her siblings. On March 4, 1946 Marian was united in marriage to Peter Schmaltz at St. Peters Church. To this union, two children were born, Paulette and Gary.
Marian was always so very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was never too busy to get down to their level to tease and play with them. The grandchildren have happy memories of games of UNO and Aggravation. She also took great pride in her gardening, especially flowers and in her baking. Her family never left her house without a variety of treats.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Peter, of Hettinger, their children, Paulette (Larry) Merwin, Baker, MT and Gary, of Lead, SD, a daughter-in-law, Joan, Hettinger, ND; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Wagendorf, Grand Forks, ND and Lorraine Fitzgerald, Norfolk, VA.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Schatz, two sisters, Norma Kostelecky and Nelda Willnow and two brothers, Reinhold and Clarence Schatz.
