Bio: Michael A. Fleck, 76, Bismarck, died July 11, 2002, at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military committal provided by VFW Post 1326. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil-rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Monday. Michael was born March 3, 1926, at Solen to Michael L. and Mathilda (Gerhardt) Fleck. He was raised and educated in Solen. Mike entered the U.S. Army in October 1946. He served in France as a sergeant during World War II as an interpreter of the German language. As a three-year veteran, he was awarded the Victory Medal. After discharge from the Army, Mike worked at Nash Finch and various other local trucking companies. He worked for Sammons Trucking out of Missoula, Mont., and worked for the Yellowstone Trucking out of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he retired after a career of 50 years in the trucking industry. He married Regina Schaff. On Dec. 24, 1981, Mike married Mary Bonogofsky at Missoula, Mont. They lived there until 1991, when they moved to Bismarck. Mike was a lifetime member of the Bismarck Eagles and was a member of the Moose, AMVETS and VFW. Mike enjoyed family history. He had the ability to remember names of all his relatives and the friends he developed over the many years of trucking. At a young age Mike's father died and this resulted in the Fleck family developing a work ethic that has served each one throughout their lives. His favorite time for relaxing was to listen to old-time music, and he was known to be an excellent dancer. Mike spent time at the Senior Citizens center where he especially enjoyed visiting with friends and would occasionally play a game of pool. After his retirement Mike still enjoyed being on the road. He and Mary traveled throughout the USA, especially Montana, California, Washington and Colorado. Given the chance, Mike loved to visit about his days of trucking, past experiences, road conditions and the countryside. His friendly smile and outgoing personality will be remembered by all those who knew him. "Big Mike" will be truly missed by his friends and family. Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; a stepson, Clifford Monzelowsky and his friend Roseanne, Covina, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Tami and Cari Monzelowsky; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary S. and Al Hoff, Carmichael, Calif., and Phyllis Eckroth, Mandan; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Steve G. and Ruth, North Platte, Neb., Matt W. and Annette, Aurora, Colo., Ted and Joan, Missoula, Mont., and Roger, Commerce City, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Irma (Fleck) Keklik. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, George and John; and one infant sister, Ann. Bismarck Tribune July 14, 2002
