Widdows , 83, of Caseyville, Ill., born Jan. 12, 1927, in Royal Oak, Mich., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. James retired from Monsanto in 1982 as an off shift supervisor and maintenance foreman. He owned and operated J.W. Heating and Cooling for 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Caseyville Methodist Church Administrative Board, and a Fellow of the Society of John Wesley. He belonged to East Lodge 504 AF & AM, and was a life time member of the VFW Lodge. James was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, and a volunteer for Faith In Action. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson R. Widdows ; mother, Esther, nee Peterson, Widdows ; step-mother, Marie Widdows ; a half sister, Mary Lou Widdows ; and two step brothers, William and Raymond Gains. Surviving are his wife, Doris, nee Mizee, Widdows of Caseyville, Ill., whom he married on Jan. 29, 1947; four daughters, Carolyn (Rupert) Greeling of Jerseyville, Ill., Janet (Brad) Smith of Collinsville, Ill., Valerie Durley-Eilering (Richard) of Collinsville, Ill., and Gail (David) Smith of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Kristen and Mark Flesher, Heather and Brandon Meiner, Brad Widdows and fiancee Stacy Swallay, Nicole and Jeff Slazinik, Rachel Durley and fiance Chad Carlson and Rebecca Eilering; six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Flesher, Kayleigh and Bradley Widdows Jr., Madison Meiner, and William Slazinik. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Herr Funeral Home, Caseyville, Ill. Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Caseyville United Methodist Church, Caseyville, Ill., with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will be at Caseyville Cemetery, Caseyville, Ill. HERR FUNERAL HOME, Caseyville, Ill.
