Marriage documents show him as the son of William Meiser and Margaret Blatt. Louisa was the daughter of Friedrick Handschumacher and Louisa Sonntag. At least six of their children emigrated to Pittsburgh between 1865 and 1880. John and Louisa Meiser came to America with the last of their daughters, Philippina Meiser Miltenberger, her husband and children, in 1880.
