Bio: Viola R. Hawig, 86, of West Bend died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006 at her residence at Cedar Bay West.She was born on Feb. 16, 1920 in the town of Wayne to the late Jacob and Rose (nee Bingen) Hawig.After graduating from Kewas-kum High School, she attended the former Milwaukee Teacher's College, earning her bachelor's degree in education.Viola was an elementary school teacher in Iron River, Mich., Rhinelander, Beaver Dam and Appleton for a total of 40 years prior to retiring.She was a member of the Secular Franciscan (formerly known as the Third Order of St. Francis), a former member of St. Therese Parish in Appleton, a member of Holy Angels Parish in West Bend, the Catholic Daughters of America, Outa-gamie County Retired Teachers Association, Outagamie County Historical Society, the Washing-ton County Retired Educators Association and the Washington County Historical Society.Survivors include a brother, Edward (Catherine) of the town of Wayne; a sister, Norma Wietor of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Hawig of West Bend and Mildred Hawig of Newburg; many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hawig and Rosella "Sally" Weske; two brothers, Wilmer and Albert; and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Weske and Leo Wietor.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Rick Wendell presiding.Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Kewaskum.Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.The family has requested memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund.The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~On May 28, 1937, Viola graduated from Kewaskum High School with the honor of being named valedictorian with a grade point average of 93.12. Weddig, Clarence G. Werner, Jeanette M. Werner, and Walter E. Werner. The senior trip this year was to Madison, Wisconsin, where the class spent the entire day accompanied by the high school principal, Mr. Rose.
