Jack Charles Saichek, 84, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 surrounded by his family as they sang one of his favorite songs “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.
Jack was born to Al Saichek and Corra Nichols on August 1, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI. He graduated from North Division High School in 1952. Jack served overseas in the Army. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He continued his studies at Northern Illinois University where he received his Master’s degree in Education. Jack married Joan Elaine Aspenleiter in 1959. After moving to Sandwich, IL Jack began his teaching career at Sandwich Community School. They then moved to Rockford where he taught Science at Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Flinn Middle Schools and Guilford High School.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan; children, Steve (Michelle Locascio), Susan Leombruni, and Jill Alms-Haynes (Bud) all of Rockford; brother, Alan (Alison) of Fremont, California. Jack had 9 grandchildren: Justin (Akanksha), Nicholas, Mackenzie and Max Saichek, Brent and Lucas Leombruni, Nathan (Emily) Alms, Mandy (Erik) Fetter, & Jordan Alms.
Jack was predeceased by his parents.
His children remember him as a caring, devoted, and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and was always eager to provide advice.
Jack would never pass up an opportunity to cheer at his grandkids’ athletic, educational or musical events. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Milwaukee Brewers. Jack was a creative, quick-witted individual who, in high school, was talented in gymnastics and later loved writing, swimming and dancing. He wrote many letters to the editor of the Rockford Register Star. He also enjoyed writing his own songs and performing them whenever he could gather a captive audience. He was a 5 gallon Blood Donor at the Rock River Valley Blood Center.

The family would like to thank the ER and ICU staff at Mercyhealth Hospital – Rockton Ave for their compassionate care.
