Bio: Obituary from the Craig Daily Press:Lora Thayer Fife Berreth 1914 - 2009The funeral for Lora Thayer Fife Berreth, 94, of Ellendale, N.D., was March 16, 2009, at Presbyterian United Methodist Church at Ellendale. Chaplain Adrienne Trhlik officiated.Burial will be in the spring in Veblen City Cemetery in Veblen, S.D.She died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Prince of Peace Care Center at Ellendale.Lora Thayer Fife, daughter of John and Ethyl (Thayer) Fife was born June 4, 1914, in Spencer, S.D. She graduated from Highmore High School with the class of 1932. She then attended St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minn., for one year, before transferring to Freeman Junior College at Freeman, S.D.She was united in marriage to Eugene J. Berreth on April 9, 1933, in Miller, S.D. On March 17, 1940, she dedicated her life to Christ. She received her teaching certificate in 1955 and then taught country school for 10 years in one-room schools in North Dakota and South Dakota. Her husband became a Methodist Pastor in 1945. They lived and served in the ministry for 32 years in many communities in Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota. They retired in 1977 and spent the next 10 winters in Arizona. They moved to Ellendale in 1989. Her husband died August 13, 1993. She entered Prince of Peace Care Center in the fall of 2006.Lora enjoyed Bible study, knitting, crocheting, reading and gardening flowers and plants. She loved to correspond with family and friends.She was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church.Survivors include two sons, Marvin (Marjory) Berreth, of Rochester, Minn., and Richard (Beth) Berreth, of White, S.D.; daughter Marilyn (Lester) Hehr, of Craig; brother Leo (Lori) Fife, of Garden City, Kan.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.Her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.Honorary casketbearers were her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: Lin Christiansen, Katherine Pinon, Dean Berreth, David Berreth, Joanna Atman, Barbara Vanhavermeat, Brian Berreth, Leslie Morrissey and Joseph Hehr.The organist was Tim Peterson and the soloist Karen Griffin.The family prefers memorials be made to Prince of Peace Care Center Chapel, 201 Eight St. N. or Presbyterian United Methodist Church, 421 Fifth Ave. N., Ellendale, N.D. 58436.Condolences may be sent to www.carlsenfh.com www.carlsenfh.com/.Carlsen Funeral Home of Ellendale have been entrusted with arrangements.
