Ray Scherer and Rev. Max Borah officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Mt. Erie. Visitation will be one hour before services Friday at the church. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek, Calif. Memorials can be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Orinda, Calif., Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek, Calif., or the Alzheimer's Association of the Greater San Francisco Bay area at (650)962-8111.Scherer was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Richland County, the son of Arthur L. and Etta (Burgener) Scherer. He married Dorothy Borah.He had a 36-year career with Del Monte Corp. until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Rochelle, Dekalb, Ogden, Utah, and Orinda, Calif. He graduated from U of I College of Agriculture. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was president of National Canners Association, and was a member of Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow) and Yacht Club of San Francisco. He received an Illini Award for the University of Illinois College of Agriculture.He is survived by his wife, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; three sons, Steve Scherer of Bel-Air, Calif., Phil Scherer, of Sonoma, Calif., and Joe Scherer, of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers, Ray Scherer, of Holland, Pa., and Chris Scherer, of Urbana; one sister, Bernie Crum, of Olney; and three grandchildren, Rachel, Ben and Sam Scherer.He was preceded in death by his parents.Olney Daily Mail (IL) Dec. 30, 1997 Family Members Parents Arthur L Scherer 1892-1955 Etta E.
